A day on the second floor
The roof is yours alone — the only outdoor space in the building.

You hear the azan across the rooftops rather than through traffic. At this height the road is a sound in the distance rather than a thing outside the window.

The most light of the three floors, on every face, for the longest part of the day. Nothing shades you.
- Midday, June
The honest part: you are under the roof slab, and in a Lahore June that slab is the hottest surface in the building. Roof insulation is not optional on this floor — it is the difference between a good home and an expensive one to cool.
- Afternoon
The roof is drying your washing, holding your water tank, and carrying your solar panels if you fit them. None of that is negotiated with anyone, because none of it is shared.
- Evening, October to March
The reason people pay for this floor. Six months of the year the roof is the best room in the building, and it is outdoors and it is yours.
- Night
Nobody walks above you. Of the three floors this is the quietest for the sound that annoys people most — footsteps on a slab.
This floor suits
- Anyone who wants outdoor space and cannot afford a plot to get it
- Households planning solar, which needs a roof nobody else has a claim on
- Buyers who value quiet above convenience
- People who will actually use a terrace six months a year
This floor does not suit
- Households with an elderly member or anyone for whom two flights is a barrier
- Buyers unwilling to spend on roof insulation in the first year
Worth knowing before you buy this one
Insulate the roof first
Before curtains, before paint. An uninsulated slab in Lahore makes the top floor five to seven degrees hotter than the one below it through June and July, and every summer you delay is a summer of cooling bills that would have paid for it.
Get the roof rights in writing
Exclusive roof use is the second floor's entire premium, so read that clause yourself rather than taking it on trust. It is set out on the common areas page, and it is in your contract — check that the two say the same thing.
